A long term pilot scale experiment with steam reforming treatment technology was conducted for volume and weight reduction of uranium contaminated waste organic solvent which was difficult to incinerate. The technology consists of a steam reforming process and a submerged combustion process. In the fast process, organic solvent is vaporized and pyrolyzed with superheated steam in a reducing atmosphere. In the second process, the decomposition gases are completely burned in a submerged combustion reactor. A short term treatment test was carried out the before the long term test. The test achieved high mass reduction rate of the waste organic solvent.

We studied the corrosion behavior of the tank material SS400 for flock storage in fluid flow condition by air agitation. Fluid flow increased the corrosion rate and this effect was reduced by the presence of the flock. Decreasing of flow rate and change of air to inactive gas are effective in corrosion prevention measures.

Laser isotope separation of cesium (Cs) was studied based on laser photochemical reaction and two-photon excitation scheme using a narrow line width Ti:sapphire laser to reduce long-term radioactive toxicity of long lived fission product. By the resonant laser irradiation to Cs atoms in hydrogen gas, cesium hydride (CsH) fine particles were observed, and the formation was confirmed by calculations using rate equations. The process is promising for efficient Cs isotope separation.
